The nitrogen content of carburizing agents and their impact on metallurgical castings.

In the metallurgical casting industry, the use of carburetors is very extensive, as they can compensate for the loss of carbon elements during the casting training process. In recent years, there has been a demand for the development of high-quality castings to use many carburetors, and the requirements for the composition of carburetors are becoming increasingly high while ensuring the quantity. During this period, nitrogen element exists as a secondary element in the carburetor, and its content has a significant impact on the casting. Therefore, the nitrogen content in the carburetor is increasingly valued. So what is the nitrogen content of the carburetor? What effect does its content have on castings? Below will be your responses one by one.

1、 Nitrogen content of carburetor

1. The naturally calcined Petroleum coke carburant may not be calcined at high temperature, so the calcination temperature is low and the time is short. The nitrogen content is generally around 1000PPm, which is 0.1%. The nitrogen content is relatively high, and its sulfur content is also high. Clear marks cannot be drawn on white paper.

2. The nitrogen content of Petroleum coke carburant calcined at high temperature is about 500 PPm, that is, about 0.05%. Sulfur is much lower than natural calcination. Can leave clear marks on white paper.

3. Graphite column particle carburetor is a carburetor made by kneading graphite powder and binder into cylindrical particles. As the carbon is in the form of graphite, the carburetor has excellent absorption in the furnace, which is almost the same as the above high-temperature calcined Petroleum coke. Trainers believe that this type of carbon enhancer is very good, with low sulfur and nitrogen content. Generally below 600ppm, including 600ppm, which is 0.06%.

4. Coal carbonizing agent, including bituminous coal and Anthracite, has different nitrogen content according to the quality of coal, which is generally 2000~7000PPm, or 0.2%~0.7%.

2、 The Effect of Nitrogen Content on Castings

1. Causing nitrogen pore defects

In carburizing agents, poor quality and high nitrogen content can easily cause nitrogen porosity defects in castings, which has a negative impact on castings. Nitrogen porosity is one of the common defects in casting production, which occurs inside, on or near the surface of the casting and appears in circular, elongated, and irregular shapes of varying sizes. During the cooling and condensation process of liquid metals, the solubility of the gas decreases, and the separated gas will form pores before it can escape. These pores are mainly nitrogen pores and hydrogen pores.

2. Advance casting strength and hardness

For gray cast iron, proper nitrogen content can shorten the length of graphite sheet, add tortuosity, passivate the end, reduce the Aspect ratio, promote pearlitization of the matrix, strengthen the cast iron matrix, and advance the tensile strength and hardness of castings, which is the positive effect of nitrogen content on castings. But when the amount of nitrogen absorbed by molten iron during the melting process exceeds a certain critical value, it separates out in the later stage of casting solidification and is surrounded by solid dendritic walls. Without the compensation of molten iron, cracks like subcutaneous pores exist between the dendrites, forming nitrogen porosity defects in the casting. Therefore, in the carburizing agents used in cast iron, the nitrogen content should be strictly controlled.

The above answers to the nitrogen content of carburants. It can be seen that the nitrogen content of different types of carburants is different, and the nitrogen content of high-temperature calcined Petroleum coke carburants and graphite particle carburants is relatively low. After analyzing the impact of nitrogen content on castings, it can be found that within a certain plan, nitrogen is a favorable element that can improve the strength and hardness of castings, but exceeding the plan will cause nitrogen porosity defects. Pingluo County Shunchi Carbon focuses on the production of carburants. The produced Anthracite carburants and carburants have the characteristics of high carbon, low sulfur, high temperature fusibility and low nitrogen, and have fast absorption speed and high absorption rate.
